The
Nevada Silver Tappers began 15-years ago with one instructor and
three students. Today, 30 dancers and two instructors make up the
Nevada Silver Tappers. Also known as the "Sweethearts of
Nye County", the Tappers range in ages from 50 to an elegant
82-years young. They come from every walk of life, and for the many
blessings the Tappers have received, they give back to mankind through
dance and specialty acts. The Tappers do approximately 25 performances
a year at various fund raisers and/or benefit shows, thereby raising
thousands of dollars for the needy, as well as for non-profit organizations.
It
requires plenty of commitment, effort and special individuals to
put on a Nevada Silver Tappers show. It doesn't matter whether the
Tappers are appearing at the Harvest Festival, one of the Nye County
Schools, Saddle West Hotel & Casino of Pahrump, or New York-New
York Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The endless practice and the
intense rehearsals are all the same for the dancers: fun, friendship,
good exercise, and the joy of great performance!
In
addition to our numerous performances, the individual Tappers are
active throughout the community with various charities and volunteer
work. The United Way has honored The Nevada Silver Tappers as "Volunteers
of the Year" during 2001. Two of our sister Tappers, Blanche
and Pat, were also recognized as "Volunteers of the Year"
during 1999 and 2001, respectively.
As
the Tappers travel throughout the state, the town of Pahrump is
represented by Millie James, Ms. Senior Nevada of 1997; and by B.J.
Hetrick-Irwin, Ms. Senior Nevada of 1992. Until 2001, B.J. was the
producer/director of the Ms. Senior Nevada Pageant; she became affiliated
with the Pageant after she was crowned in 1992. B.J. Hetrick-Irwin
currently is the director and choreographer of The Nevada Silver
Tappers, along with Mona as her assistant.
At
the present time, B.J. is leading an effort to create the first
"Ms. Senior Golden Years Of Pahrump" pageant. This will
give Pahrump seniors an opportunity to express their viewpoints,
talents, and accomplishments to local audiences during the pageant
and to the public-at-large during the ensuing year.
As
Pahrump grows, so do the requests for The Nevada Silver Tappers.
B.J. tries to accommodate every reasonable request. During the past
year, the Tappers have performed in Nevada, Arizona, and California.
All requests for performances must be made to- and approved by-
B.J. She can be reached through this site by visiting our Contact
Us page and clicking on the "envelope" icon.
